"Smoke me a kipper. I'll be back for breakfast"

Down .7 lbs this morning.

Breakfast: Kippers and eggs
Lunch: Apple
Snack: Dry roasted peanuts
Dinner: Grilled salmon with caper sauce, salad
Late snack: Cashews

My feet have been really aching since yesterday. I wish someone would invent anti-gravity boots and I could do my shopping and get my exercise without actually touching the ground. That grilled salmon was a Bobby Flay recipe. So delicious and so garlicky. Mmmmmm! Gonna have that again!

Got next to no exercise today. Went to the beach for awhile, did some shopping, and otherwise just watched TV. And aren't you both impressed that after the beach I didn't go for Captain's Butterscotch ice cream in a chocolate-dipped sugar cone. I thought about it, but resisted.

One step forward, half a step back

Up .2 lbs this morning. No more jogging for awhile. My ankles hurt this morning, not in a good way, so what I did yesterday was too much. :( My legs are rather tired lately, so had a not-overly-strenuous treadmill day, to get my body a bit of a rest without foregoing exercise altogether. Wish I could afford a Power Plate.

Breakfast: Vegetable omelette
Snack: Cashews
Lunch: Salad with bacon
Snack: Greek Yogurt
Dinner: Grilled salmon and baked sweet potato with a bit of sour cream
Snack: Small banana

Woohoo! Down 1 whole lb. this morning! My plan today was to get up early and do yoga before work. Didn't happen. Stayed up too late and didn't get up early enough. Got it in at lunch, though. Promising myself I'll go to bed early tonight. I'm really tired.

Breakfast: Eggs & bacon

114 minutes total exercise. 69 minutes total on the treadmill. 30 of those minutes on the treadmill were at a slow jog, twice, at 15 minutes each. I know I am not built for running, but my body really wanted to move that way for awhile. I did stop after 15 minutes because my feet and ankles were starting to hurt, but it felt good for the rest of me. Hopefully, 15 minutes at a slow speed was gentle enough that I won't suffer because of it. 45 minutes Bikram yoga postures, one set. 10,014 total steps. 8,418 aerobic steps.

How based on calorie intake

Zero... again

Breakfast: One slice sprouted grain toast with peanut butter and Marmite
Snack: Cashews
Lunch: Salad with salmon
Snack: Greek yogurt
Dinner: Kimchi omelette
Snack: Greek yogurt

2 hours total exercise. 1 hour Barbie's workout. 1 hour on the treadmill. Pedometer was on sideways, so I have no step count today. My hips ache. Worked hard!

Weekend

I didn't keep close track of what I was doing over the weekend, but I'm down 1.1 lbs since Friday, bringing me back to .2 lbs under my starting point, again. I didn't get any exercise at all on Saturday, and spent an hour total on the bike yesterday. I didn't eat anything I shouldn't have, but I did eat a bit more than I should have.

TGIF!!!

I feel so mentally tired. I'm very happy it's Friday! Down .2 lbs. Still above my starting point. I'll get there eventually, but this is sure slow going! And while .2 lbs isn't very much, that loss means weighing less every morning after eating Thai lettuce wraps remains 100% true. :)

I did the Tortoise workout this morning. While the Hare is faster moves with lighter weights, the Tortoise is slower moves with heavier weights. Haven't done this workout since the last time I used my VHS version, about 7 or 8 years ago. It was tough!

Reading Kate's comments about how many books she's read so far this year, (WOW!), and thinking about packing my stuff, has made me start to consider purging some of my books, again. I've been spending a lot of time reading subtitles, so haven't been adding to my book collection. Still have a ton of books, though. I was really ruthless before moving here from California, and I regretted getting rid of as many books as I did. This time, I'll hang on to my favorite science fiction hard covers. I'm beginning to think having electronic versions of everything I want might be the way to go, and I can reduce a lot of the STUFF I have. On the other hand, I like the aesthetic appeal of real hard cover books on the shelves in my library. An electronic book is never going to have the same appeal as a gold-embossed leather-bound edition. Can't make up my mind about anything these days. Not about books, nor even about where I want to live. I'd really like it if someone would move Key West to the mainland and make it affordable, though.

Started a dream diary. After a week of writing down my dreams, (in a very lovely iPad app), I've come to the conclusion that I'm just plain weird. Last night I tried to pay for some little thing with a Canadian $5 bill. The lady behind the counter looked at me as if to say, "What am I supposed to do with that?" Then she showed me she couldn't even change it because all she had was a $330 bill. I've really got to start having more interesting dreams! Or maybe a more interesting life to inspire more interesting dreams.

Breakfast: Omelette with peppers and onions. Fresh carrot/cucumber/peppers/garlic juice.
Lunch: Salad with bacon
Snack: Greek yogurt
Snack: Cashews
Snack: One row organic dark chocolate with ginger
Dinner: Omelette with kimchi

2 hours 12 minutes total exercise today. 1 hour Tortoise workout. 1 hour 12 minutes on the treadmill. 7,905 aerobic steps. 9,604 total steps.

I need some sun. Maybe a little vitamin D will make me feel better.

dinner - 1/2 portion of baja salad from wendys

yogi - wed

soo.. yesterday was a much better day for me.. E was not in the office ..thank you God.. and i got alot done for work.

breakfast - bagel thins with cream cheese
falafel whole wheat pita with vegis, feta cheese and avocado.. the avocado in mediterian sandwitch.. would not recommend it.. bag of dorritos and diet coke
went spinning with a friend... so i have this couple friend.. ive known them for a few years.. and the past few years i knew the guy had a mini crush on me(we got drunk one time and he got a little too close).. so lately ive been noticing his girl has been mad curshing on andres.. i think she asked me about andres around 15 times in the past day and a half.. oh so andres is in stuart, what time is he leaving, what time is he back home, what is he doing next week, what time do you think he will want to meet us on friday.. she went with me to spinning yesterday and they were playing a song that andres normally likes.. its not his favorite.. just one that he likes.. it didnt even register with me and shes like oooh andres likes this song..
i wish she would stop asking me about andres every 2 minutes...its flattering but annoying at the same time.

dinner - talapia with salad.. my new favorite dish is talapia.. i can't have enough and i love that its healthy..

Getting close to zero... again!

Down .9 lbs. I'm going up and down but don't seem to be making much actual headway. Obviously, I can't even have one bad day, or I ruin any progress I've made. I have actually noticed a slight change in the shape of my legs, though. Not enough that anyone else would notice, but it's a good thing. :)

I'm feeling so demotivated at work. So much to do, I don't know what to do next. I feel like I'm standing in place, spinning in circles. Not feeling very efficient like this. Having all these strangers wandering through my house every day is distracting, too, and it's making it difficult to concentrate.

Breakfast: 2 eggs. Fresh carrot/squash/celery vegetable juice.
Snack: Kimchi. (This spicy kimchi is SOOOO much better than the mild stuff! Unfortunately, that was all that was available last time - it was so bland. This is good!)
Lunch: Salad with salmon
Snack: Dry roasted peanuts
Dinner: Spicy Thai lettuce wraps
Snack: 1 Frito (given to me by the little girl sitting next to me in the bleachers.) 2 bites bratwurst with sauerkraut

Total exercise 1 hour 40 minutes. 1 hour 3 minutes swimming. 37 minutes treadmill. Total steps 9,103. Aerobic steps 4,217.

Zero +2

Argh! No more cookies for me! My weight is up more again this morning, not surprisingly, and I'm now 2 lbs above my starting point again. :( Started the day well, though, by doing One of the aerobic weight training workout. "You should be feeling failure right about now." Yeah, no kidding! God, that's tough, especially first thing in the morning. Nearly didn't make it past the very first plies right after the warm up. Always so happy to get to abs work--means it's nearly over. Felt great when I was done! My new copy of The Tortoise arrived today, so I'll do that one next time. All the packaging on those old Firm fitness videos used to say "Visible results guaranteed in 10 workouts". We'll see. I've just done 3 since last week.

Breakfast: One slice sprouted grain toast with natural peanut butter and Marmite. This bread is pretty good, but Bible bread is better.
Lunch: Salad with chicken
Organic jasmine green tea
Snack: Cottage cheese with grape tomatoes
Dinner: 5 shu mai with chili bean paste and baked sweet potato fries with sone ground mustard
Snack: Cashews

1 hour 51 minutes total exercise. 1 hour Barbie's workout. 51 minutes treadmill. 8,915 total steps. 5,584 aerobic steps.

Given how stressed I've been feeling, I'm extra proud of myself foe not having any sugar. Stress was part of the reason I chowed down on so many of Suzanne's cookies yesterday. They were also just plain yummy!

Tuesday, July 19, 2011

yogi - tuesday

1 cup cereal
1 chopped salad with 2 of those tiny buns
diet coke
did not end up spinning because of the horrid day I had at work
1 glass of wine
chicken with breadcrumbs and mushroom. also had green beans and side of salad.
1 diet coke

going spinning today! have to

Slowing down

Not too strenuous today. Total 5,097 steps. Made sure to drink LOTS of water!

Breakfast: One slice sprouted grain bread with natural peanut butter and Marmite
Snack: Marinated artichoke hearts and dill pickle
Lunch: Salad with chicken
Snack: 3 of Suzanne's home made cookies. Yummy!
Snack: Another cookie (Bad girl!)
Ginger tea
Dinner: Grilled halibut and baked sweet potato strings.
Snack: 2 cookies.
Late snack: One row organic dark chocolate with ginger

Francis better hide that bag of cookies. I deserve to gain weight today! No sugar for me tomorrow!

Going up?

I gained 1.3 lbs! How? I didn't consume enough calories. And after two hours of cycling yesterday, it shouldn't have been possible. Urgh! This is why the experts tell you not to weigh yourself every day. :( Bleh! Maybe I didn't drink enough water yesterday and it's water weight. Today I'll make sure to drink plenty!

Hmmm. Maybe that's why I dreamt about swimming in deep water and big waves...

Think I'm going to take a rest day today. I've been working out very hard recently, so perhaps giving my body a bit of a break isn't too bad of an idea.

An oldie but a goodie

Down .2 lbs again today. I didn't intend to skip breakfast, but by the time I'd finished doing things, it was already noon. Did another aerobic weight training video from The Firm. Tracie Long was our other favorite instructor, and while it's not quite as tough as Barbie's workout, I still look like a freckle-faced strawberry by the time I'm done. This workout makes it very apparent that my left leg is stronger than my right. The Hare is a cross-training video designed to alternate with The Tortoise, which I rebought in DVD format today. These workouts might be old, but they're still very good.

Lunch: Salad with chicken
Snack: 3 sesame rice balls
Ginger tea
Snack: Cashews
Dinner: Grilled steak and veggies
Snack: Dry roasted peanuts

1 hour 45 minutes total exercise time. 1 hour aerobic weight-training: The Hare. 15 minutes treadmill. 30 minutes swimming. Aerobic steps: 1,722. Total steps: 4,874.

I need a hot-tub!

After aerobic weight training yesterday, and yoga the day before, every muscle in my body aches! Up .2 lbs today. Better be some muscle gain! This stomach bug, or whatever I have, is certainly being tenacious. I feel worse today than I did yesterday. Mornings seem to be fine, but I feel sick after noon. Going to take it pretty easy today. Drink plenty of water, eat gentle food, rest, and no more than 15 minutes at a time on the treadmill. Nothing more strenuous than that.

Breakfast: Eggs with back bacon
Lunch: Salad with salmon
Snack: 3 sesame rice balls
Snack: 1 row organic dark chocolate with ginger (hoping the ginger will help my stomach)
Ginger tea
Dinner: Creamy squash and vegetable soup
Snack: Cashews/dry roasted peanuts
Ginger tea

1 hour 4 minutes total on the treadmill. Aerobic steps: 7,068. Total steps: 10,724.

Saved by zero!

Woohoo! I'm at zero! I've now relost the weight I had regained, and I'm ready to start counting weight-loss again! I'm now down 50 lbs from where I started. My official goal now is to lose 10 lbs by the M&S conference. (My real goal is 15, but I'm trying to be realistic. Not impossible, but 10 will be difficult enough as it is.)

I got up early this morning so I could do The Firm Body Sculpting Basics video before work. It's from the 80s, but it's still one of the very best workouts I've ever done. When I used to do this workout with my friend back in Vancouver we called it Barbie's workout. Susan Harris looks like a Barbie doll but she's still our favorite instructor. I always feel a real sense of accomplishment whenever I get through it! I feel good. Well, partially good. Still have tummy troubles today, but at least I'm hungry.

Breakfast: Kimchi omelette
Organic jasmine green tea
Lunch: One slice of sprouted grain toast with natural peanut butter and Marmite.
Snack: Cashews
Snack: Marinated artichoke hearts
Dinner: Curried vegetables with sausage
Snack: Yogurt

1 hour 46 minutes total exercise today. 1 hour aerobic weight-training. 46 minutes on treadmill. Aerobic steps: 4,894. Total steps: 6,692.

Shaking all over

Down 2 more lbs this morning! Only 1.8 lbs to go to reach my starting point.

Breakfast: Eggs and bacon
Lunch: Salad with fish
Dinner: Grilled veggies and salmon with creamy key lime mustard

Not feeling that well today. It's easy not to over eat when you don't feel like eating at all. :\

1 hour 15 minutes total exercise today. Half hour swimming. 45 minutes Bikram yoga postures (one set each). Steps: 2,701.

I've been trying to reestablish my yoga practice ever since I broke both my arms three years ago. I finally got through a whole session! OMG, I thought I was going to die! Had to keep taking rest breaks, my heart was racing so fast. Whole body is tired. Arms and legs are all shaky. Salabhasana was painful where I broke my arms, but I suspect practice will help with that. Could not do Supta-vajrasana, which wasn't much of a surprise. I could still do Ustrasana. Yay for me! Didn't do it well and couldn't hold it very long, but I could do it. :)

Planning on an early night. So tired and drained.

Wednesday, July 13, 2011

No pain = no pain!

Down 1.5 lbs today. For the first time in months, my achilles tendon didn't hurt when I was walking yesterday. It felt tight and was slightly tender last night after all the walking yesterday, but it didn't hurt. Still feels a bit tight but doesn't hurt even after more walking today. Maybe it's FINALLY healing! I'm going to keep the incline to 0 and not go faster than 3 for awhile to make sure I don't re-injure it.

Breakfast: Two small crusts of sprouted grain bread with natural peanut butter and Marmite
Lunch: Salad with Andouille cajun style sausage
Organic jasmine green tea
Snack: Dill pickle
Dinner: Chicken omelet

2 hours, 16 minutes on the treadmill. Aerobic steps: 15,583. Total steps: 18,052

I'm so proud of myself for resisting the cranberry orange scone that has been sitting on top of the fridge most of the day. Now, it's gone. Thank you, Francis, for finally eating it!

Ladies, please can you respond to this post.

I have a question.. we blog what we eat.. but should we motivate each other, give each other ideas or call each other out when we are not being comitted? How , when, any ideas?

Yogi - Starting over

With Travel, the retreat and July 4th weekend, the last few weeks have not been good to my waistline. I've done well with my workouts but have been eating like I'm going to be hibernating the next few months.. Each meal ended up being a cheat meal. But with a new attitude comes a new resolve. I'm going to continue to workout like i have been but will focus more on my eating habits. I think its 80% of the weight loss. So I'm starting my weeks with Sundays. This week I have been great :)

Sunday - Fiber one bar for breakfast, had a turkey and chicken sandwhich with 100 calorie pack snack for lunch and one diet coke. Also this is the 6th week of my couch to 5k. So i did the 8 min run, 3 min walk, 5 min run and 3 min walk for a total of 45 mins. I also cooked for the whole week - Gazpacho, sweet potatoes with onion, zuchini and chard asian stir fry and spinach and potatoes.

Monday - 2 diet cokes, talapia with spinach and some mashed potatoes, fiber one bar and very little peanut butter and scrapped jam on whole wheat bread for breakfast.
Dinner - 1/2 cup of gazpacho

Tuesday - went spinning.. love that class. intense, leave sweating like crazy every time.. - Breakfast - oatmeal with blueberries, tea, brown rice with the spinach and potatoes i cooked during weekend, fiber one bar, diet coke,
dinner - zuchinni, chard and chicken dish i made during weekend

Wednesday - Ive decided that I will not work out on mondays or wednesdays becuase I dont want to be too sore to miss any of the spin classes.
breakfast - egg with whole wheat bread (2 slices)
snack - 100 calorie pack and diet coke
lunch - brown rice with spinach and potatoe and diet coke
snack - 100 calorie laughing cow ice cream with one stick of 2% cheese
dinner - went to dinner with the hubs.. had talapia.. 1/2 potatoe.. 1 glass of wine

Treadmill day

Why is it I'm always hungrier at night that I am during the day? I'd rather be hungrier at breakfast than after dinner. It's so much harder to be good in the evening.

Down .2 lbs this morning. It's only a small amount, but at least it's in the right direction.

Breakfast: Eggs and back bacon
Snack: Artichoke hearts and dill pickles
Lunch: Clamato juice, 3 sesame rice balls, yogurt
Snack: Grape tomatoes and cottage cheese
Snack: Hearts of palm
Dinner: Garlic feta kale with chicken
Snack: Yogurt

Spent 1 hour 46 minutes total on the treadmill. While I was walking I added some arm exercises with 1 and 5 lb dumbbells. 12,187 aerobic steps. 14,348 total steps. K-pop is so good to keep me moving when I'm not going anywhere! Also helps keep me upbeat when things get frustrating and stressful. Chocolate is still more satisfying, but burning calories is better than consuming them.

New week, new motivation

Set a timer to go off every 30 minutes to remind me to drink more water. Did very well with getting a lot of veggies, today!

Breakfast: Salmon with eggs
Snack: Dill pickle and artichoke hearts
Lunch: Salad with chicken
Snack: Kimchi
Snack: Dry roasted peanuts
Dinner: Pinto beans, ground beef and feta with onions and artichoke hearts
Snack: Organic Greek yoghurt

Two hours total on the bike. 2,638 total steps.

Weekend

Up 2.3 lbs from Friday. Bleh. Didn't drink enough water and didn't get any exercise. I ate reasonably well, but not as well as I could have. My Monday will be much better than my Saturday and Sunday.

Closer to zero...

I'm SO glad it's Friday! It's been a very frustrating work week!

Well, now that all the excess water is gone, I'm not losing several lbs in one day any more. Today I'm down .4 lbs. I'm very happy with that. I have 3.3 lbs that I regained to relose before I start counting it as weight loss again. At least I'm moving in the right direction again!

Breakfast: Eggs & bacon
Snack: The very last Nanaimo bar. (Not making any more!)
Lunch: Salad with chicken and organic greek yoghurt
Snacks: Cashews, cottage cheese, Laughing Cow wedge (I was so hungry this afternoon!)
Dinner: Veggies with feta and ground beef.
Snack: Yoghurt, Dill Pickle Potato Chips, dry roasted peanuts

So, I wasn't very good today. I could have been worse, but I also could have been a lot better.

1 hour total on the bike, and 5,289 steps.

Getting close to the starting point

Okay, down another 4.4 lbs this morning! Yay! Wish I could always lose weight this fast. I'd reach my goal in no time! I have nearly 4 more lbs to go before I can start counting weight loss again. Got up too late to get in any exercise before work. Didn't sleep much last night—body felt like lead this morning and it was hard getting up.

Breakfast: Eggs with back bacon.
Snack: Grape tomatoes and cottage cheese.
Lunch: Salad with chicken.
Snack: Organic Greek yoghurt.
Dinner: Avocado, artichokes and tomatoes with soba noodles (Don't think I'll have this again. Feel bloated and I'm still hungry.)
Snack: 1/4 cup dry roasted peanuts

Got the battery replaced in my Omron pedometer. The little PwC pedometer is really cute, but it's not as accurate as my Omron. Spent total of 1 hour and 52 minutes on the treadmill. 12,056 aerobic steps; 14,409 total steps.

No sugar tonight...

... or during the day, either. Well, I knew I'd be up all night if I drank all that water! It's good for me, though. Drank lots today, too. Hope I get more sleep tonight. Okay, I'm feeling a little better since the scale says 3.7 lbs lighter than yesterday. Had scrambled eggs with mushrooms, zucchini and onions for breakfast, along with a glass of Clamato juice. (The juice is fine on it's own, but it's even better in a Caesar.) Half hour swimming before work. Lunch was salad with salmon. Frantic rush day today, but just had enough time to squeeze in another half hour in the pool for a late lunch between sending off my PDFs and the presentation meeting at 3:30. Handful of dry-roasted peanuts for morning and afternoon snack. Worked fairly late so also had some cottage cheese and a wedge of Flying Cow garlic cheese. Curried chicken with eggs and veggies for dinner. Pedometer says 6,054 steps. Total of 45 minutes on the treadmill, plus swimming is a total of 1:45 minutes of exercise today.

Back on track

Hi, everyone. Well, I got the shock of my life when I stepped on the scale this morning and discovered I'd gained 8 lbs in the past week! Let me tell you, I'm motivated! Started the day with a half hour swim. No more sugar, no more salty snacks, no more drinking!
*Update*. Got in 2 hours total exercise today--1:30 total on the bike and :30 swimming. Breakfast was veggies and lean ground beef with a glass of Clamato juice, lunch was a salad with salmon, and dinner was more veggies and ground beef. Had a handful of dry-roasted peanuts as snacks in the morning and afternoon, and ate the last two Peak Freans cookies I ordered for Canada Day. Now that they're all gone there are no more cookies in the house. Drank a ton of water--I'll probably be up all night, now Feeling really sleepy.
