Marina - Moving

As I'm the only one blogging these days, I thought I'd start my own blog, Fit if it kills me! All further tracking will be done there. It's been great! See you on the other side. :)

Marina - How annoying

Up .9 lbs today. :That's very annoying. I got plenty of exercise yesterday, and didn't each much. :)

Breakfast: Eggs with bacon
Afternoon snack: Cashews
Lunch: Salad with chicken
Snack: Greek yogurt
Dinner: Nut crusted salmon with veggies sauteed in butter and garlic

1 hour 45 minutes total exercise today. 40 minutes MAX Workouts-Weights. Improving on the Plank with contralateral toe touches. Did all 20 for the first set, and only 12 for the second. Better than Monday! 30 minutes swimming. 35 minutes on the treadmill.

Marina - New low but not so young

Down .7 lbs this morning. I'm getting older, though. My Wii Fit age today was 35.

Breakfast: One slice sprouted grain toast with natural peanut butter and Marmite.
Snack: Small apple
Dinner: Buffalo chicken salad with blue cheese dressing.
Snack: Greek yogurt

I have no idea how much total time I spent exercising today. 30 minutes MAX Workouts-Cardio intervals on the treadmill. Aerobic steps 3,929. Total steps 10,327. Walked a lot today as I ran all my errands, but no additional cardio. Got a blister on the bottom of my foot.

Marina - Weekly cumulative

Down 4.4 lbs since last Monday. Very happy with that! Going to continue to work hard and be as good as I can this week, because next week, starting Saturday, being good is not going to be very easy.

Whey protein after workout (didn't get around to actually eating breakfast)
Lunch: Salad with salmon
Snack: Macadamias
Dinner: Steak & veggies in a wine and pepper sauce
Snack: Almonds

1 hour 12 minutes total exercise today. 40 minutes MAX Workouts-Weights. Making slight improvements on the Plank with contralateral hand to toe touches. Still have to modify it, and still can't do 20, BUT I was able to do 14 on both sets. An improvement over 10 and 12 of last week. 32 minutes on the bike. Spent a lot of time walking today, but as it was around shops, it wasn't exactly aerobic. Forgot to wear my pedometer, so I can't count steps today. I suppose it still burned a few calories, though.

Marina - Losing streak over

Well, I knew it couldn't last forever. Up .4 lbs this morning.

Breakfast: Eggs & bacon. Fresh vegetable juice.

Snack: Few macadamias

Late lunch: Chicken Caesar wrap. 1 bite of dessert bar.

Dinner: Salmon and veggies

Today is my rest day. Waiting on more stuff for work, so I was able to run around most of the day taking care of a bunch of errands. Still have a whole lot more to do, but I'm more exhausted from this than from doing workouts! Had a nap after I got back and slept until 7:00 before dinner. Did a little more work at night, and went to bed too late, again.

Marina - Another new low

Down another .2 lbs this morning. I think this is the first time EVER in my life that my weight has decreased this many days in a row. Maybe I'm finally doing something right! The back of my arms are so sore today from the dumbbell pullovers. My quads are a bit achy from the step-ups and my lower abs from the killer abs/core exercises. Feels great! MAX Workouts is a tough program, but I really like it. It's more effective than anything I've done before.

Breakfast: One slice sprouted grain toast with natural peanut butter and Marmite.
Snack: Macadamias
Late morning: Jasmine Green tea
Lunch: Salad with chicken
Snack: Small bowl of strawberries. Licorice tea.
Dinner: Steak and kimchi omelette

2 hours total exercise today. 1 hour continuous swimming. 15 minutes on the treadmill.  45 minutes continuous on the bike. It was another long work day today—all day and all night. Didn't finish until after 11:30 pm again.

Marina - Getting younger and another new low

My Wii Fit age today is 22! How I wish I still looked like I did at 22! Something must have really kicked into high gear this week. I'm down another .7 lbs today. In spite of starting my day with a distressing email that made my heart sink through the floor, I'm still pretty happy and am overjoyed it's Friday! It's been a long, tough day, though, and I'm not sure how much weekend I'm actually going to have. I was supposed to be off today, but instead of an extra long weekend, I'll be working this weekend. Just hope it won't be all weekend, because I have a lot of chores and errands to take care of. I'm getting too old to work 12.5 hour days. :( Hope Saturday is much shorter than today!

Breakfast: One slice sprouted grain toast with natural peanut butter and Marmite.
Snack: Macadamias
Lunch: Salad with chicken
Snack: Greek yogurt
Dinner: Salmon with tomatoes and avocado on soba noodles
Snack: Macadamias
Late snack: One wedge Laughing Cow cheese.

Total 1 hour 31 minutes exercise today. 46 minutes total on the treadmill. 45 minutes MAX Workouts-Weights. Today was the first time for this particular workout, and I really liked it. Five different exercises, as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes, plus warm-up and abs/core. I did a little better with abs/core exercises today. Still have to use the step-up box instead of the ball for the first one, but I could use the ball for the second one without resting it against another surface. Still have to do a modified version of the Plank with contralateral hand to toe, but I managed 12 reps in both sets this morning instead of ten. Not a lot more, but it is still an improvement. Can't do 20 yet.

Marina - New month, new goal

I've set a new goal of another 10 lbs in three months.

Breakfast: Eggs with back bacon
Snack: Macadamias
Lunch: One slice of sprouted grain toast with natural peanut butter and Marmite
Afternoon: Ginger tea
Snack: Small bowl of strawberries
Dinner: Mahi mahi and veggies with a little butter
Snack: Greek yogurt

1 hour 40 minutes total exercise. 34 minutes MAX Workouts-Cardio intervals on the treadmill at 0 incline. 46 minutes regular aerobic on the treadmill at 3% incline with light dumbbells. 20 minutes on the treadmill with 0 incline and no weights. 13,959 total steps. 11,353 aerobic steps.

I thought the cardio intervals today were fairly easy — 30 seconds high, 15 seconds low, repeat for 4 rounds, 1 minute rest. That constitutes one round, and there were 6 rounds, plus warm-up and cool-down. While it didn't seem that hard, my face was still bright red and I was still very sweaty by the time I was done.

Work is so busy and so frustrating right now. Had to cancel my day off tomorrow. :(

Marina - GOAL!

Down 1.1 lb today, exactly meeting my 10 lb goal! Woohoo! My Wii Fit age this morning is 28. I'm feeling pretty good! Still really stressed about work, but this is going a long way to making everything better. :) The last time I weighed anywhere close to this was in 1998, just after I graduated from the 2D/3D Animation program.

I've lost so much each day this week, that every morning I'm expecting to see the scale go back up, at least a little. The biggest difference I can think of that may account for this is the addition of drinking whey protein after my workouts in the mornings. I've also been brushing my skin and massaging in body oil before bed.

From past experience, I really do expect my weight to go back up a bit, but if it doesn't, so much the better. Francis said to me this morning, "So this means we can go to an all-you-can-eat buffet?" Hah! Not a chance! Nothing is more motivating than success, and I'm not willing to backslide just yet.

Marina — I'm 29 today!

At least, my Wii Fit age is 29, today. I'm also at another new low this morning, down another 1.3 lbs. I'm confused. That's 2.8 lbs in 2 days! Not complaining, though. If I keep this off, I could actually conceivably reach my 10 lb goal by the conference, as I only have 1.1 lb to go.

Breakfast: One slice sprouted grain toast with natural peanut butter and Marmite. Jasmine green tea.
Snack: Kimchi
Lunch: Salad and macadamias
Snack: Apple slices sprinkled with cinnamon
Dinner: Baked sweet potato fried and salmon
Snack: Two wedges laughing cow cheese

Total 1 hour 29 minutes of exercise today. 40 minutes MAX Workouts-Weights intervals. 49 minutes on the treadmill with 3% incline. I still can't perform any of the abs/core exercises the way they're proscribed, so I've modified them a bit. Instead of using the ball for the first one, I put a blanket on my step-up box and used that, instead. I could still feel my muscles working, so I know I was getting benefit from them, even though they were modified. The second one I didn't need to modify too much. I just rested the ball against the step up box to stop it rolling away. It was barely touching, so that was pretty good. For the plank with the cross under leg, opposite hand to toe touch? Well, I still just fall over, so instead of lifting my leg, I'm crossing the leg under but placing my toe on the floor so I can stay upright. Even then, I could only do 10 reps instead of 20, but it's better than zero! No doubt, as I get stronger, I'll be able to do these better—if my wrists last that long. They were kinda achy afterwards, and not in a good way.

Marina - New low!

Down 1.5 lbs today! Woohoo! I shouldn't get too excited because when I drop that much I usually go back up again pretty quickly, but I'm very happy anyway! :) 2.4 lbs to go to reach my goal. My hands and ankles aren't as swollen as they have been for the past couple of days, so I'm sure water has made a difference. Who knows? Maybe that whey protein helped, too.

Breakfast: One slice sprouted grain toast with natural peanut butter and Marmite. Jasmine green tea.
Snack: Macadamias
Lunch: Scrambled eggs with kimchi
Snack: Dry roasted peanuts
Dinner: Vegetables and salmon in Madras curry sauce
Snack: Greek yogurt

1 hour 33 minutes total exercise today. 30 minutes MAX Workouts-Cardio intervals on the bike. 1 hour 3 minutes regular aerobic on the bike.

Marina - Weekly curmulative

Down .9 lbs from last Monday. 4 lbs to go to reach goal. No change on the scale from yesterday. I'm actually really pleased about that. Ate too many refined carbs yesterday, didn't drink enough water and got no exercise, so I'm thrilled the number on the scale didn't jump up!

Breakfast: One slice sprouted grain toast with natural peanut butter and Marmite. Jasmine green tea.
After workout: Whey protein powder.
Lunch: Salad with chicken.
Snack: Macadamias
Dinner: Grilled game hen and onions red pepper and mushrooms
Snack: cashews/macadamias

2 hours total exercise today. 1 hour 15 minutes on the treadmill at 3% incline. 45 minutes MAX Workouts-Weights. 8,108 aerobic steps. 10,009 total steps

Today was day 1 of Level II workouts. OMG! I could not complete everything! For the last set of lunges with overhead presses, I could only do half the number of reps. I was short 4 reps on the last set of dumbbell plank with rows, too. 2-3 sets of the abs/core exercises are optional, but I always do them. These new ones, though? I couldn't do ANY of the three of them. And if anyone has any tips or suggestions, I'd love to hear them! The first two are on a stability ball. Couldn't manage to get my shins and feet on the ball, let alone alternating dropping one leg to the floor. Couldn't do the plank hold on the ball, either. Couldn't keep it in place. The final exercise was crossing one foot underneath your body in plank and twisting to reach your toes with the opposite arm. I fell over. At that point I decided to do crunches, leg lifts and pulleys. After those I did one set of one of the previous level's abs/core exercises. Then I tried shoving the ball up against the wall and holding plank. That was okay, but I don't think that's the way it's supposed to work. I've got three weeks of these abs/core exercises, three times a week. They don't change every time like the other exercises do, so I'm going to have to figure these out! It was a tough workout today. I think my face would have glowed in the dark.

Whey protein powder is supposed to help you build muscle and burn fat, so I thought I'd give it a try, starting today. I had baby breath afterwards.

Marina - Rest day

Up .4 lbs this morning. Bleh!

Breakfast: Two slices sprouted multigrain toast with avocado, garlic and tomato. Mmm!
Lunch: Salad with chicken and avocado
Snack: Cashews
Snack: One slice of cheese bread with butter
Dinner: Nut crusted salmon with veggies
Snack: 3 sesame balls

Today would have been a great day to go to the beach. It certainly would have been more fun than how I actually did spend my day, running errands and working. Can't wait for the long weekend!

Didn't drink anywhere near enough water today. My ankles are swollen. Didn't get any exercise, either, although that part was intentional. I'm scared to step on the scale tomorrow!

Marina - Maintaining

No change on the scale today.

Breakfast: One slice of sprouted grain toast with natural peanut butter and Marmite
Lunch: Chicken and veggies in spicy peanut sauce with soba noodles
Snack: Dry roasted peanuts
Dinner: Buffalo BBQ chicken, a hot dog (no bun), a piece of enchilada, coleslaw, artichoke salad, a couple of spoons of something that tasted like the inside of an enchilada, 4 melted chocolate dipped strawberries.

1 hour total exercise today. 1 hour DVD The Hare aerobic weight training.

Got the next 3 weeks of the MAX Workouts program ready for Monday, and had a look at the upcoming exercises. Gotta get an exercise ball and maybe a bench. Some of those exercises I'm not sure I'm capable of doing. Yikes! They'll be challenging, at the very least.

Went to a company BBQ at my in-laws' this evening. Ate more than I should have, and didn't drink anywhere near enough water. Made a new friend who turns out to live on the same golf course as me - the next hole over. Very funny woman who has lived all over the world. She had lots of very entertaining stories to tell. Definitely more fun than working, but I still have to work this weekend.

And let me just say my fire ant bites are driving me nuts, now. They've all turned into little blisters that both itch and burn. Yech!

Marina - TGIF!!!

Down .2 lbs this morning.

It was raining when I took the dog for a walk this morning. It was a nice gentle rain. I don't think I've walked in weather like that since I left Vancouver. It was actually very pleasant, and much cooler than it has been lately. Didn't get up early enough to do everything I got done before work yesterday today, but at least I DID get the bed made this morning. :) Didn't get my workout in before work, though. Had to wait until lunch.

Breakfast: Kimchi and bacon omelette. Licorice tea.
Snack: Small bowl of strawberries. Jasmine green tea.
Lunch: Kimbap
Snack: Marinated hearts of palm
Dinner: Chicken and vegetables with spicy peanut sauce and soba noodles
Snack: cashews

1 hour 35 minutes total exercise today. 20 minutes walking the dog. 38 minutes on the bike. 37 minutes MAX Workouts-Weights. 2,333 aerobic steps. 5,641 steps.

The weights workouts on Mondays and Wednesdays are specific numbers of reps for specific numbers of sets. On Fridays, it's still a specific number of reps, but it's as many sets as you can do in 20 minutes. I'm tired today and didn't feel like I did as well at the time, but I did get in one more set than I did the first two weeks, so there's an improvement. :) I got in 7 sets of bench rows with a 20 lb dumbbell, but had to finish the last two sets with 15. Last week I did the first rep with a 15 and the other 7 with 20, and the first week I did all 8 with 15. I'm satisfied with that progression. I was also happy that I got through all the plank to reach and twists without needing a little break before I finished. Still collapsed after I was done, but that happens every time! New set of exercises on Monday. Wonder what they'll be...

Spent most of my day with slippers on my feet rather than my usual flip-flops. My flip-flops are the most comfortable footwear I own, but they're rubbing all the fire ant bites from yesterday, so wearing them is pretty painful.

Added lemon to water today. I really should do that more often. It's so refreshing. The organic, 100% buckwheat soba noodles I ordered arrived yesterday. They made for a delicious dinner! I had to order them online because no one around here sells any that are made with 100% buckwheat. Most of them are 80% wheat, so I was happy to find them online. Much more expensive, though, but they're a great option for reducing grain consumption.

Marina - early bird

No change on the scale today. At this point, while it's not impossible to reach my goal of 10 lbs by the conference, I'd say it's very unlikely. Have 3.7 lbs to go.

Had to get up really early this morning to get everything done before work. Walked the dog in the dark, fed the dog and the cats, took the dog out again, cleaned up the kitchen, got in my cardio interval training, took the dog out again, had a shower, made breakfast and tea, dried my hair, cleaned up the kitchen again, took the dog out one last time, and put down the umbrella in preparation for high winds later today. It's a gorgeous day. Absolutely nothing to indicate that a hurricane is headed in this direction. Never did get around to making the bed, though.

While Francis doesn't need to lose any weight, he really should start trying to get fit and healthy, too. (I'd like to keep him around for a good, long time — most days.) And, in addition to exercising his body, he needs to start training his brain, as well. My husband has become Mr. Absent-minded. On Tuesday he filled the pool but forgot he was doing it and left the water running for hours and hours. When I went outside I saw the pool was way over-filled and turned of the water. I asked him why he filled it since a hurricane was coming and would be dumping a lot of water into the pool for free. He forgot. So, unbeknownst to me, he starting draining it. When I went outside yesterday I noticed the water level was much lower. Okay, I figured he drained out what he had just put in. However, an hour after the pump started this morning I began to hear this horrendous racket and went to check it out. Well, he forgot he was draining the pool and left town without stopping it, so the pool was still draining. It was WAY below the minimum water level, and my back yard is now very soggy with pool water. Of course, the hose was attached to the pump far too tightly for me to unscrew it with my bare hands, so I had to go find something to detach it with. Stopped the pump from draining more water and have refilled the pool, again. And, after fiddling around with the hose and the pump I ended up covered in biting fire ants! Francis is so lucky he's away right now. I told him that when he called about the text message I left him. I also told him he better add ginko biloba to the shopping list. He's got to do something about that memory! Sheesh!

Breakfast: One slice sprouted multi grain toast with natural peanut butter and Marmite. Jasmine green tea.
Snack: Cashews
Lunch: Nut crusted salmon and salad with avocado
Dinner: Slice of deli ham, slice of cheddar, tomato & garlic salad, 4 dolmatas
Snack: Cashews

1 hour 39 minutes total exercise today. 34 minutes MAX Workouts-Cardio intervals on the treadmill. 35 minutes walking (outside with the dog). 30 minutes on the bike. Total steps 12,207. Aerobic steps 7,958.

My in-laws picked me up after work and took me back to their place for dinner. It was a very nice evening. When I got back home, I discovered I didn't have my keys. It was pouring with rain and very dark so I had to empty everything out of my purse using my phone as a light. My poor dog was scratching at the door, and all the cats were lined up looking out the window. Why aren't I coming in? Had to call my in-laws to see if my keys were in the car. They were, and they drove back to drop them off. By the time the got back to my house it had stopped raining so I was able to take the dog out for a short walk. Busy day!

Marina - What goes up, must come down

Down .9 lbs today.

Pre-workout: Just a few cashews
Breakfast: Eggs and back bacon. Fresh vegetable juice.
Snack: Cashews. Egyptian Licorice tea
Lunch: Kimbap
Snack: Cashews
Dinner: Nut crusted salmon with capers and salad with avocado
Evening: Ginger tea

1 hour 31 minutes total exercise today. 40 minutes MAX Workouts-Weights. OMG, my workout this morning was hard! I did every single push up with arm pulls that I was supposed to, but I don't think I could have possibly done one more. (I can't say I do any type of push ups well, either, but I DID do them.) Same with plank with reach and twist. They kill me! Had to take a little break half way between the last set of those. I did finish, though. 51 minutes on the treadmill at 6% incline.

All by myself for a couple of days. Francis is away at a convention until Friday. He's so good to me. He made me an extra Kimbap roll and piece of nut crusted salmon so I won't have to cook too much, or live on toast.

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

Snack: 3 sesame seed balls. Jasmine green tea.

Yogi - August 22nd - Back from the dead

Hey guys.. my bad.. ive been a bad girl!

Ok im back.. had a great weekend.. sat went to baby shower and stayed up till 3am with friends..but didnt drink or eat at night.. very proud of that

But ive been good with my food and workouts.. just need to get better at this! and i will.. hold me accountable ladies!!!!!

sunday - chilled at home, went to lunch with hubs, had a nap (love sunday naps) and stayed home.

Monday - bagel with cheese (wheat thin and the laughing cow)
lunch - two soft vegi tacos with beans and rice (i know its bad)

Marina - Weekly cumulative

I'm up .4 lbs from last week. I know you're not supposed to weigh yourself every day, but this is one of the reasons that I do. I'm feeling pretty discouraged that I'm up from last week, but I'd feel even worse if I hadn't been stepping on the scale every morning, because then I would have missed the fact that I reached new lows twice this past week. However, being up still sucks! I'm 1.5 lbs heavier than I was 3 days ago. :( As of today, I have 4.9 lbs to go to reach my goal.

Breakfast: Fresh vegetable juice. Eggs and bacon
Mid-morning: Jasmine green tea
Snack: Apple sprinkled with cinnamon
Lunch: Scrambled eggs with kimchi
Snack: Dry roasted peanuts
Dinner: Salad with chicken
Snack: Almonds

1 hour 26 minutes total exercise today. 46 minutes on the treadmill at 3 incline, using light dumbbells. 40 minutes MAX Workouts-Weights. Every time I do one of these MAX Workouts, be it weights or cardio intervals, I always start out thinking it's so much easier than it was the last time. However, by the time I'm done, I'm still drenched in sweat and red in the face! Some of these exercises, especially the plank to reach under & twist, are giving me rough elbows. I'll have to make sure to give them extra moisturizer. They're hard, but I can feel they're effective.

Everything is so frustrating lately! I'm working so hard but don't seem to be making much progress. I'm actually talking about work here, but this applies to my fitness goals, also. I have failed to master the art of mind-reading, and that would go a long way in making things go a little more smoothly.

Marina - A little discouraged

I'm down .2 lbs. Dropping such a small amount after yesterday's significant unexplained weight gain is quite discouraging. :( Hopefully, tomorrow's cumulative results will show some progress.

Breakfast: One slice sprouted whole grain toast with natural peanut butter and Marmite
Snack: One small bite of a caramel desert bar
Lunch: Salad with salmon
Snack: Cashews
Dinner: Vegetables in Madras curry sauce and steak
Snack: 4 sesame rice balls

Today was my rest day. Spent the morning walking around old town St Augustine, which I always enjoy. Didn't wear my oedometer so i have no idea how many steps i walked today, but it was certainly NOT strenuous exercise. Bought a couple of bottles of Fountain of Youth spring water while I was there, and drank one of them today. We'll see if it does me any good. :) Spent the afternoon relaxing by the pool, reading. I need more days like this to de-stress!

Marina - Jumping up!

It better be muscle! Up 1.5 lbs today.

Breakfast: One slice sprouted grain toast with natural peanut butter and Marmite
Lunch: Salad with chicken
Snack: Cashews
Early evening: Fresh carrot, apple, ginger juice
Dinner: Spanish tortilla
Snack: 3 sesame rice balls

Today was my active recovery day, meaning I could do whatever I wanted as long as I got in at least 40 minutes of aerobic activity. Since I haven't done any of my Firm workout DVDs in nearly two weeks, I decided to do the Hare. Looking forward to my rest day, tomorrow.

1 hour 21 minutes total exercise. 1 hour aerobic weights. 21 minutes on the treadmill at 3 incline.

Marina - Going down!

Down .4 lbs this morning. Another new low! Yay!

Breakfast: 2 eggs. Fresh vegetable juice
Snack: Cashews
Lunch: Salad with salmon. Jasmine green tea
Afternoon: Fresh vegetable juice
Dinner: 2 Angel Krabs, Garlic Lovers vegetables with beef
Evening: Ginger tea

Kate, reading your entries made me want to visit Thai Korner, one of the two best restaurants in Palm Coast. So delicious! And so fresh! Since dinner was mostly vegetables, I don't feel guilty, even though I ate a little more than I should have. There's plenty left over to have with breakfast tomorrow.

2 hours 17 minutes total exercise. 1 hour 34 minutes on the bike. 43 minutes MAX Workouts-Weights (I'm typing this sentence right after I finished my workout. It's hard to type because my hands and arms are shaking! Whew!)

Thursday, August 18, 2011

Marina - I'm 25!

Well, my Wii Fit age is 25 today. I'll take it! :) Down .4 lbs to another new low.

Breakfast: One slice sprouted whole grain toast with natural peanut butter and Marmite.
Late morning: Organic jasmine green tea.
Lunch: Scrambled eggs with kimchi
Snack: Cashews
Dinner: Kimbap
Snack: 3 sesame rice balls

1 hour 31 minutes total exercise today. 34 minutes MAX Workouts-Cardio intervals on the bike. 57 minutes regular aerobic on the bike.
The only drawback I'm finding to all this intense exercise is that the sweat is aggravating eczema on my face. It's mild, thankfully, but I'd rather it wasn't there at all. If I can get healthy and fit, though, it will be worth it.

Marina - Holding steady

No change on the scale this morning.

Breakfast: Bacon omelette
Snack: Apple slices sprinkled with cinnamon
Lunch: Salad with chicken. Fresh vegetable juice. (Green juice with orange foam looks odd. Lots of carrots in this one.)
Snack: Cashews
Dinner: Sweet potato fritters with spicy sour cream and peach salsa (Mmmmm!)
Snack: Small bowl of strawberries

1 hour 31 minutes total exercise. 40 minutes MAX Workouts-Weights first thing in the morning. 16 minutes on the treadmill. Increased my incline to 6 after the first 8 minutes at 3. 35 minutes on the bike. Felt slightly sick towards the end and after the weights this morning. I did some research online and discovered that it's fairly common when working large muscle groups, but didn't find a definitive answer as to why. There were plenty of possible explanations, though — eating before a workout, working out on an empty stomach, too many carbs, not enough carbs, drinking water between sets, lactic acid, toxin release for newbies. Whatever the reason, didn't feel that great for a little while.

Marina - Progress

Down .2 lbs again, getting back to my lowest point of a few days ago. I'm hoping tomorrow will be another new low.

Breakfast: Fresh vegetable juice. Eggs and back bacon.
Lunch: Salad with chicken and avocado
Snack: Cashews
Dinner: Thai lettuce wraps
Snack: 3 sesame rice balls

One hour 26 minutes total exercise today. 52 minutes on the treadmill. 34 minutes MAX Workouts-Cardio intervals on the treadmill. Aerobic steps 10,040. Total steps 11,390.

Yesterday's weights workout certainly had an impact. Every time I stand up today I can feel it! That's good! Given how hard I worked my arms yesterday, I'm surprised they're not hurting, too, but they feel fine. I really prefer the cardio days, but the weight training is making a big difference.

If anyone is looking for a good interval timer, I really like the Seconds - Interval Timer for iPhone/iPad. Nice, simple interface, and does everything I want. Easily customizable. At $2.99, it's much less expensive than buying a real interval timer. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/seconds-interval-timer-for/id363978811?mt=8
It's great for timing turnovers at the beach so you don't burn, too. :)

Down 1.3 lbs from last Monday. 4.4 lbs to go to reach my goal. No change since yesterday. Given that I got no exercise at all yesterday, I'm surprised, but pleased.

Breakfast: Fresh vegetable juice. Omelette
Snack: Almonds
Lunch: Salad with chicken
Snack: Small bowl of raspberries and strawberries. Organic jasmine green tea.
Dinner: Kimbap
Snack: Dry roasted music

Total 1 hour 36 minutes of exercise today. 45 minutes MAX Workouts-Weights. 51 minutes on the treadmill. The rest this weekend must have been very beneficial for me. I did my weights workout before work, and while weights just seem heavier to me first thing in the morning, I had tons of energy. I got so into my music that I was dancing around in between sets. So much better than the exhaustion I was feeling all last week!

Not sure what I should say to both of you to be supportive. Do I say "Bad girls!", or let it pass without comment because you already know? :)

Marina - Another new low.

Now, that's more like it! Down 1.1 lbs this morning.

Breakfast: two eggs and fresh vegetable juice
Lunch: Salad with mahi mahi
Snack: Cashews
Dinner: Refried beans, onions, salsa, grated cheese, ground beef, pork

My body is tired. I worked it very hard this week. I'm happy today is just a regular moderate cardio session, and tomorrow, there is no workout scheduled at all. :) Spent some time just relaxing around the pool, sitting under an umbrella and reading-with a table fan to cool things down a little. So nice! Went to a Mexican party tonight. I was amazingly restrained. I did eat a little more than I should have, but it wasn't excessive, and none of it was food I shouldn't have. I did not eat any of the chocolate chip cookies, nor did i have a piece of chocolate cake. And I drank water rather than margaritas. Nice little place on the second floor. Two blocks from the beach, and the large back yard had it's own dock on a small canal. They can canoe to the intracoastal. Lovely deck and back balcony with a gorgeous view of the lush landscape. Amazing sunset! Saw lots of bats after the sun went down.

Spent 77 minutes total on the treadmill today. Today was an active recovery day. No intense workout, but had to do a minimum of 40 minutes of continuous moderate aerobic activity. I just walked today. 10,274 total steps. 8,357 aerobic steps.

Marina - A step back down again

Down .2 lbs this morning. I'm pleased but I have to admit just slightly disappointed, too. I really thought it would be more. Back to the 55lb loss mark, again. Still haven't quite made it back to the lowest ever point from earlier this week. Hope I can stay under it this time, and keep going down. It would be nice if it really were as simple as calories consumed vs calories expended.

Breakfast: Omelette. Fresh tomato and cucumber juice.
Snack: Cashews
Lunch: Salad with mahi mahi
Snack: Small bowl of strawberries and raspberries
Dinner: Chicken and vegetables in a Madras curry sauce
Snack: Almonds

1 hour 48 minutes total exercise today. 73 minutes on the bike. 35 minutes MAX Workouts-weights. Can I spend my entire Saturday in bed, not moving a muscle, sleeping and dreaming sweet dreams? That's never going to happen, but the thought sure appeals to me right now!

Marina - See-saw

Up and down again! Down .4 lbs this morning. I was so tired last night. I fell asleep quickly, but still don't feel very rested. I would have been happy to have stayed in bed a couple more hours. I can hardly wait for Saturday morning. I'm planning on not even seeing it!

Breakfast: Fresh vegetable juice. Eggs and back bacon.
Lunch: Salad with salmon and avocado. Fresh vegetable juice
Snack: Cashews
Dinner: Chicken with kale and onions
Snack: Almonds
Late snack: Wedge of Lauging Cow cheese

85 minutes total exercise today. 48 minutes on the bike. 37 minutes MAX Workouts-Cardio intervals on the treadmill. I'm proud of myself today. About half way through the intervals I wanted to quit. (Actually, I don't even think I was half way through.) I kept telling myself one more and then I'll stop. One more and then I'll stop. I "one more'd" all the way through! The compression wrap helped, but I still hurt my ankle a bit. Put a cold compress on it but think I'll stay off the treadmill for a day or two. Aerobic steps 4,691. Total steps 6,314.

In case anyone is interested in finding out more about MAX Workouts, here's a link: http://www.maxworkouts.com/ You can download a free report and sign up for email tips. The tips are pretty good. I was especially impressed with the video for what you can do if you're on vacation and don't have any equipment.

Marina

Up .4 lbs this morning. Life is a mystery. How could I possibly gain anything from what I did or ate yesterday? Oh well. As long as it's a downward trend, I'm okay. I did spend a lot of time at my desk and my feet were a bit puffy by the time I went to bed, so maybe the extra on the scale this morning is water. Don't think I drank enough yesterday.

Breakfast: Scrambled eggs with kimchi
Snack: Fresh vegetable juice and almonds
Lunch: Salad with chicken and avocado
Snack: Fresh vegetable juice and cashews
Dinner: Vegetable kimbap

One hour 46 minutes total exercise today. 30 minutes of swimming. Let me tell you, water temperature of 86 is MUCH better than 97. I enjoyed my swim this morning and didn't feel like I was cooked by the time I got out. 31 minutes on the treadmill with light dumbbells, incline 3. 45 minutes MAX Workouts-weights. Aerobic steps 3,545. Total steps 5,199.

I'm exhausted. It's only 9 o'clock, but I can hardly keep my eyes open. Early night for me.

Detox = net loss

Down .2 lbs today. So, three days after the three day detox, I'd say there was a 3 lb net loss. I did it for health reasons rather than weight loss, but I'm happy with the weight loss, too! Gets me that much closer to my September goal. Almost half way there! Yesterday's new exercise program is having an impact today. I can feel it in my gluts, hamstrings, inner thighs, and all around my waist, including lower back.

Breakfast: One slice sprouted multi-grain toast with natural peanut butter and Marmite
Snack: Fresh vegetable juice, almonds
Lunch: Wedge of Laughing Cow cheese. Organic jasmine green tea.
Snack: Fresh vegetable juice
Before dinner snack: Cashews (Couldn't wait for dinner. I was starving!)
Dinner: Kimbap with salmon

86 minutes total exercise. 54 minutes on the treadmill. 32 minutes Max Workouts-Cardio on the bike. 5,740 aerobic steps. 9,001 total steps.

Monday, August 8, 2011

Weekly cumulative

Down 2.7 lbs this week. 5.6 lbs to go to reach goal. Up another .4 lbs since yesterday, so I'm no longer at 55 lbs loss any more. Yesterday was a rest day, so all I did was some fairly gentle yoga in the morning and before bed. The strenuous exercise I've been doing doesn't make me ache any more, but I could sure feel the yoga this morning!

Breakfast: One slice of sprouted multi-grain bread with natural peanut butter and Marmite.
Lunch: Salad with chicken and avocado
Snack: Cashews
Dinner: Kimbap
Snack: Dry roasted peanuts

Total 1 hour 49 minutes of exercise today. Total 64 minutes on the treadmill. Set incline to 3 for each session, and added 1 and 5 lb dumbbells for a short time on the first session. 45 minutes MAX Workouts-weights. Wow! This looks like a really great program. Not sure if it's for me or not, yet. I'll probably like it better when I know what I'm doing, though. I did two out of five sets of squats with two 20 lb dumbbells. The other three sets were done with 15s. This evening, several hours after doing this workout, I can definitely feel my muscles. I've got to take a BEFORE picture. This program runs for 90 days, and you can win $1,000 for best results within that time frame.

I feel so tired and drained tonight. Going to bed early. Tomorrow's going to be a stressful day. I have GOT to find some time very soon to figure out how to place an order for paper and toner. Used my last black toner today and I'm more than half way through my last ream of paper.

Sunday, August 7, 2011

Rest day

Up .4 lbs since yesterday. Disappointing, but not surprising. Exactly down 55 lbs today, so if I gain any more back, I'll lose that milestone. Added more food today, but still drinking juices, also.

Before breakfast: Barley grass in water.
Breakfast: Carrot, cucumber, beetroot and spinach juice
Lunch: Kimbap
Mid-afternoon: Carrot, apple and ginger juice.
Late afternoon: Barley grass in water
Dinner: Salmon and salad with avocado
Evening: Almonds
Before bed: Moroccan mint tea

50 minutes of yoga. 30 minutes general practice yoga. 20 minutes PM Yoga Spent a little time in the sun before the thunderstorm rolled in. I wonder what the SPF is for the screens in a screened enclosure. I could be out there all day and never burn. Too hot to stay out there very long these days, though.

Saturday, August 6, 2011

New low!

Down another 1.8 lbs this morning. This makes 3.6 lbs in three days. I feel really good. The question is, will I gain it back again just as fast? As of today, I'm officially at my lowest weight ever since arriving in the US more than a decade ago! I finally reached 55 lbs and surpassed it a little! Yay!

I'm going to start reintroducing meals slowly today. Same breakfast as the last three days. Lunch is similar, basically rice and veggies, and dinner is the same as yesterday plus salmonl.

First thing: Water with lemon juice and ginger
Before breakfast: Barley grass in water.
Breakfast: Carrot, cucumber, beetroot and spinach juice
Lunch: Kimbap
Afternoon: Ginger tea
Dinner: Carrot, tomato, spinach, celery, cucumber, red bell pepper and barley grass juice. Salmon.
Early evening: Almonds
Before bed: Egyptian Licorice Tea

Never had kimbap before. It looks just like sushi rolls, which I don't like, but this was delicious! I could eat this on a regular basis. The pickled daikon in it was so spicy. Mmmmm!

Two hours 2 minutes total exercise today. 62 minutes on the treadmill. 60 minutes aerobic weight training (Hare). 7,051 aerobic steps 11,117 total steps I feel like im making a bit of progress i was able to raise my hips higher than before when doing reverse crunches and iso hip lifts And I increased my mid-range weights a little from 8 lbs to 10 lbs. I bought another 15 lb dumbbell and two 20 lb dumbbells. I think I'll be able to do at least some squats and lat rows with 20s, anf, if not, I now have two 15s I can use. I think I might be able to do french presses with a 20, also. I'll find out in the next couple of days. Those workouts claim visible results after 10 workouts. Today makes 8, and I have actually been seeing a little bit of a difference. My butt doesn't stick out quite as much, and my thighs don't stick out more than my hips any more. My legs and arms both look slightly more toned. You have to look hard to see the difference, but there IS one! :) My Achilles tendon seems to be completely healed so I've been increasing my speed on the treadmill, and set an incline of 3 for part of my last session today.

Detox - Day 3

Down another .9 lbs today.

First thing: Water with lemon juice and ginger
Before breakfast: Barley grass in water.
Breakfast: Carrot, cucumber, beetroot and spinach juice
Before lunch: Ginger tea
Lunch: Brown rice and veggies.
Mid-afternoon: Barley grass in water. Carrot, apple and ginger juice
Late afternoon: 6 almonds
Dinner: Carrot, tomato, spinach, celery, cucumber, red bell pepper and barley grass juice
Evening: Almonds
Before bed: Egyptian Licorice tea

1 hour 37 minutes total exercise today. 35 minutes total on the treadmill. 102 minutes total swimming before and after work. The water is so hot it's like swimming in a giant bathtub. 98 degrees is great for relaxing, but not so good for exercising. I don't think it can be very healthy to exert yourself in water that hot. When I got out of the pool my heart was racing and I was bright red. On a tangentially related note, why is it only the swimsuits I really loathe last forever. The ones I reasonably like disintegrate so fast. Had to throw out one I liked last week, and the cheap, ugly one I bought strictly because I needed another one to swim in, the one that is exposed to the most chlorine, that I would never be seen in public in, looks just like it did when it was new.

Detox - Day 2

Down .9 lbs this morning! Yay! I upped my weights yesterday and deepened my squats a little. I'm surprised nothing hurts today. I'm especially amazed my abs don't hurt—I really felt them working hard yesterday. I worked everything hard yesterday, but I felt them more than usual.

First thing: Water with lemon juice and ginger
Before breakfast: Barley grass in water.
Breakfast: Carrot, cucumber, beetroot and spinach juice
Before lunch: Everyday Detox tea
Lunch: Brown rice and veggies.
Early afternoon: Barley grass in water and Everyday Detox tea

So, this detox plan is MUCH better than the HCG diet. I feel great instead of miserable and unwell. I don't feel especially deprived, either. And, I don't have to pay for expensive supplements.

Detox - Day 1

You know, if I knew I was going to be up .2 lbs this morning, I would have eaten those cookies last night! :P

Started on the 3 day detox program today. Got up early enough to do Barbie's workout before work this morning. I can't believe I actually used to do the floor work with ankle weights on, too! Man, it's hard, especially first thing in the morning! I really felt good after I was done, though.

First thing: Water with lemon juice and ginger
Breakfast: Barley grass in water. Carrot, cucumber, beetroot and lettuce juice
Mid-morning: Ginger tea
Lunch: Brown rice and veggies. (So good when that's all I get to eat!)
Mid-afternoon: Ginger tea

Evening: Almonds
Before bed: Moroccan mint tea

60 minutes Barbie's workout. 38 minutes on the treadmill. 4,092 aerobic steps. 5,686 total steps.

Who needs a sauna when you can just go outside? Spent my lunch in the sun, sweating out impurities. I was starving around 4:00, but that passed fairly quickly and I was fine. Turns out I was supposed to have carrot, apple and ginger juice in the afternoon, but that part of the instructions got skipped over by mistake.

Balloon

Ugh! I feel bloated today. Not sure why. My eyes were all puffy, too. Looked 100 years old. :( I couldn't get up this morning. I can't say I slept in because I couldn't actually sleep, but it was 8:40 before I managed to drag myself out of bed. Bleh! Pretty much looked normal again by noon.

Bloated, puffy feeling aside, I'm down .2 lbs. Still haven't reached a new low on the scale yet, but I'm getting closer.

Breakfast: Mushroom omelette
Snack: Apple sprinkled with cinnamon
Lunch: Grilled salmon with caper sauce and salad
Snack: Dry roasted peanuts
Dinner: Steak and veggies with a little butter
Snack: Artichoke hearts and kimchi

80 minutes total on the treadmill (15 minutes slow jog). 9,255 aerobic steps. 10,551 total steps.

I'm really proud of myself this evening. Since I'm planning on starting that three-day cleanse tomorrow, I was going to be a little bad and have a couple of those ginger cream cookies for desert. But instead I ate vegetables. Good for me!

Monday, August 1, 2011

Monday - Not a great morning

im 142!! 1 lb heavier.. serves me right for not spinning this past week. In all honesty though after running on monday, my left knee was in bad shape and I ddint want to injure myself which is why i decided to swim instead of spin on wed.. I signed up for spin classes this week and am going rain or shine.

Sat - went to beach with family. Ate badly. chips, sandwitches. mimosas and beer. heavy dinner from cuban restaurant.

sunday - woke up late exhuasted from the day before.. had laughing cow cheese with toast. 2 100 calorie packs, diet coke, and went to lunch to an italian restaurant and had talapia

Down .7 lbs this morning.

Breakfast: Kippers and eggs
Lunch: Apple
Snack: Dry roasted peanuts
Dinner: Grilled salmon with caper sauce, salad
Late snack: Cashews

My feet have been really aching since yesterday. I wish someone would invent anti-gravity boots and I could do my shopping and get my exercise without actually touching the ground. That grilled salmon was a Bobby Flay recipe. So delicious and so garlicky. Mmmmmm! Gonna have that again!

Got next to no exercise today. Went to the beach for awhile, did some shopping, and otherwise just watched TV. And aren't you both impressed that after the beach I didn't go for Captain's Butterscotch ice cream in a chocolate-dipped sugar cone. I thought about it, but resisted.

One step forward, half a step back

Up .2 lbs this morning. No more jogging for awhile. My ankles hurt this morning, not in a good way, so what I did yesterday was too much. :( My legs are rather tired lately, so had a not-overly-strenuous treadmill day, to get my body a bit of a rest without foregoing exercise altogether. Wish I could afford a Power Plate.

I did stop after 15 minutes because my feet and ankles were starting to hurt, but it felt good for the rest of me. Hopefully, 15 minutes at a slow speed was gentle enough that I won't suffer because of it. 45 minutes Bikram yoga postures, one set. 10,014 total steps. 8,418 aerobic steps.

Zero... again

Okay, so getting back to my starting point again is a good place to be at the beginning of a new week. It would sure be nice if I could stop going up and down within the same 8 lbs.

Snack: Cashews
Lunch: Salad with salmon
Snack: Greek yogurt
Dinner: Kimchi omelette
Snack: Greek yogurt

2 hours total exercise. 1 hour Barbie's workout. 1 hour on the treadmill. Pedometer was on sideways, so I have no step count today. My hips ache. Worked hard!

Weekend

I didn't keep close track of what I was doing over the weekend, but I'm down 1.1 lbs since Friday, bringing me back to .2 lbs under my starting point, again. I didn't get any exercise at all on Saturday, and spent an hour total on the bike yesterday. I didn't eat anything I shouldn't have, but I did eat a bit more than I should have.

TGIF!!!

I feel so mentally tired. I'm very happy it's Friday! Down .2 lbs. Still above my starting point. I'll get there eventually, but this is sure slow going! And while .2 lbs isn't very much, that loss means weighing less every morning after eating Thai lettuce wraps remains 100% true. :)

I did the Tortoise workout this morning. While the Hare is faster moves with lighter weights, the Tortoise is slower moves with heavier weights. Haven't done this workout since the last time I used my VHS version, about 7 or 8 years ago. It was tough!

Reading Kate's comments about how many books she's read so far this year, (WOW!), and thinking about packing my stuff, has made me start to consider purging some of my books, again. I've been spending a lot of time reading subtitles, so haven't been adding to my book collection. Still have a ton of books, though. I was really ruthless before moving here from California, and I regretted getting rid of as many books as I did. This time, I'll hang on to my favorite science fiction hard covers. I'm beginning to think having electronic versions of everything I want might be the way to go, and I can reduce a lot of the STUFF I have. On the other hand, I like the aesthetic appeal of real hard cover books on the shelves in my library. An electronic book is never going to have the same appeal as a gold-embossed leather-bound edition. Can't make up my mind about anything these days. Not about books, nor even about where I want to live. I'd really like it if someone would move Key West to the mainland and make it affordable, though.

Started a dream diary. After a week of writing down my dreams, (in a very lovely iPad app), I've come to the conclusion that I'm just plain weird. Last night I tried to pay for some little thing with a Canadian $5 bill. The lady behind the counter looked at me as if to say, "What am I supposed to do with that?" Then she showed me she couldn't even change it because all she had was a $330 bill. I've really got to start having more interesting dreams! Or maybe a more interesting life to inspire more interesting dreams.

Breakfast: Omelette with peppers and onions. Fresh carrot/cucumber/peppers/garlic juice.
Lunch: Salad with bacon
Snack: Greek yogurt
Snack: Cashews
Snack: One row organic dark chocolate with ginger
Dinner: Omelette with kimchi

2 hours 12 minutes total exercise today. 1 hour Tortoise workout. 1 hour 12 minutes on the treadmill. 7,905 aerobic steps. 9,604 total steps.

I need some sun. Maybe a little vitamin D will make me feel better.

ate one toast with egg and the other with scrapped peanut butter and jam

diet coke
1 laughing cow ice creme
snack - 1 2% cheese and small bag of nuts
prob with working from home is I always want to eat everything in sight
went spinning yesterday and almost died because my muscles were sore from spinning yesterday. I had to go because i will prob be out till 5am which means ill be sleeping all day tomorrow :) recovering..
dinner - 1/2 portion of baja salad from wendys

yogi - wed

soo.. yesterday was a much better day for me.. E was not in the office ..thank you God.. and i got alot done for work.

breakfast - bagel thins with cream cheese
falafel whole wheat pita with vegis, feta cheese and avocado.. the avocado in mediterian sandwitch.. would not recommend it.. bag of dorritos and diet coke
went spinning with a friend... so i have this couple friend.. ive known them for a few years.. and the past few years i knew the guy had a mini crush on me(we got drunk one time and he got a little too close).. so lately ive been noticing his girl has been mad curshing on andres.. i think she asked me about andres around 15 times in the past day and a half.. oh so andres is in stuart, what time is he leaving, what time is he back home, what is he doing next week, what time do you think he will want to meet us on friday.. she went with me to spinning yesterday and they were playing a song that andres normally likes.. its not his favorite.. just one that he likes.. it didnt even register with me and shes like oooh andres likes this song..
i wish she would stop asking me about andres every 2 minutes...its flattering but annoying at the same time.

dinner - talapia with salad.. my new favorite dish is talapia.. i can't have enough and i love that its healthy..

Getting close to zero... again!

Down .9 lbs. I'm going up and down but don't seem to be making much actual headway. Obviously, I can't even have one bad day, or I ruin any progress I've made. I have actually noticed a slight change in the shape of my legs, though. Not enough that anyone else would notice, but it's a good thing. :)

I'm feeling so demotivated at work. So much to do, I don't know what to do next. I feel like I'm standing in place, spinning in circles. Not feeling very efficient like this. Having all these strangers wandering through my house every day is distracting, too, and it's making it difficult to concentrate.

Breakfast: 2 eggs. Fresh carrot/squash/celery vegetable juice.
Snack: Kimchi. (This spicy kimchi is SOOOO much better than the mild stuff! Unfortunately, that was all that was available last time - it was so bland. This is good!)
Lunch: Salad with salmon
Snack: Dry roasted peanuts
Dinner: Spicy Thai lettuce wraps
Snack: 1 Frito (given to me by the little girl sitting next to me in the bleachers.) 2 bites bratwurst with sauerkraut

Total exercise 1 hour 40 minutes. 1 hour 3 minutes swimming. 37 minutes treadmill. Total steps 9,103. Aerobic steps 4,217.

Zero +2

Argh! No more cookies for me! My weight is up more again this morning, not surprisingly, and I'm now 2 lbs above my starting point again. :( Started the day well, though, by doing One of the aerobic weight training workout. "You should be feeling failure right about now." Yeah, no kidding! God, that's tough, especially first thing in the morning. Nearly didn't make it past the very first plies right after the warm up. Always so happy to get to abs work--means it's nearly over. Felt great when I was done! My new copy of The Tortoise arrived today, so I'll do that one next time. All the packaging on those old Firm fitness videos used to say "Visible results guaranteed in 10 workouts". We'll see. I've just done 3 since last week.

Breakfast: One slice sprouted grain toast with natural peanut butter and Marmite. This bread is pretty good, but Bible bread is better.
Lunch: Salad with chicken
Organic jasmine green tea
Snack: Cottage cheese with grape tomatoes
Dinner: 5 shu mai with chili bean paste and baked sweet potato fries with sone ground mustard
Snack: Cashews

1 hour 51 minutes total exercise. 1 hour Barbie's workout. 51 minutes treadmill. 8,915 total steps. 5,584 aerobic steps.

Given how stressed I've been feeling, I'm extra proud of myself foe not having any sugar. Stress was part of the reason I chowed down on so many of Suzanne's cookies yesterday. They were also just plain yummy!

yogi - tuesday

1 cup cereal
1 chopped salad with 2 of those tiny buns
diet coke
did not end up spinning because of the horrid day I had at work
1 glass of wine
chicken with breadcrumbs and mushroom. also had green beans and side of salad.
1 diet coke

going spinning today! have to

Slowing down

Not too strenuous today. Total 5,097 steps. Made sure to drink LOTS of water!

Breakfast: One slice sprouted grain bread with natural peanut butter and Marmite
Snack: Marinated artichoke hearts and dill pickle
Lunch: Salad with chicken
Snack: 3 of Suzanne's home made cookies. Yummy!
Snack: Another cookie (Bad girl!)
Ginger tea
Dinner: Grilled halibut and baked sweet potato strings.
Snack: 2 cookies.
Late snack: One row organic dark chocolate with ginger

Francis better hide that bag of cookies. I deserve to gain weight today! No sugar for me tomorrow!

Going up?

I gained 1.3 lbs! How? I didn't consume enough calories. And after two hours of cycling yesterday, it shouldn't have been possible. Urgh! This is why the experts tell you not to weigh yourself every day. :( Bleh! Maybe I didn't drink enough water yesterday and it's water weight. Today I'll make sure to drink plenty!

Hmmm. Maybe that's why I dreamt about swimming in deep water and big waves...

Think I'm going to take a rest day today. I've been working out very hard recently, so perhaps giving my body a bit of a break isn't too bad of an idea.

An oldie but a goodie

Down .2 lbs again today. I didn't intend to skip breakfast, but by the time I'd finished doing things, it was already noon. Did another aerobic weight training video from The Firm. Tracie Long was our other favorite instructor, and while it's not quite as tough as Barbie's workout, I still look like a freckle-faced strawberry by the time I'm done. This workout makes it very apparent that my left leg is stronger than my right. The Hare is a cross-training video designed to alternate with The Tortoise, which I rebought in DVD format today. These workouts might be old, but they're still very good.

Lunch: Salad with chicken
Snack: 3 sesame rice balls
Ginger tea
Snack: Cashews
Dinner: Grilled steak and veggies
Snack: Dry roasted peanuts

1 hour 45 minutes total exercise time. 1 hour aerobic weight-training: The Hare. 15 minutes treadmill. 30 minutes swimming. Aerobic steps: 1,722. Total steps: 4,874.

I need a hot-tub!

After aerobic weight training yesterday, and yoga the day before, every muscle in my body aches! Up .2 lbs today. Better be some muscle gain! This stomach bug, or whatever I have, is certainly being tenacious. I feel worse today than I did yesterday. Mornings seem to be fine, but I feel sick after noon. Going to take it pretty easy today. Drink plenty of water, eat gentle food, rest, and no more than 15 minutes at a time on the treadmill. Nothing more strenuous than that.

Breakfast: Eggs with back bacon
Lunch: Salad with salmon
Snack: 3 sesame rice balls
Snack: 1 row organic dark chocolate with ginger (hoping the ginger will help my stomach)
Ginger tea
Dinner: Creamy squash and vegetable soup
Snack: Cashews/dry roasted peanuts
Ginger tea

1 hour 4 minutes total on the treadmill. Aerobic steps: 7,068. Total steps: 10,724.

Saved by zero!

Woohoo! I'm at zero! I've now relost the weight I had regained, and I'm ready to start counting weight-loss again! I'm now down 50 lbs from where I started. My official goal now is to lose 10 lbs by the M&S conference. (My real goal is 15, but I'm trying to be realistic. Not impossible, but 10 will be difficult enough as it is.)

I got up early this morning so I could do The Firm Body Sculpting Basics video before work. It's from the 80s, but it's still one of the very best workouts I've ever done. When I used to do this workout with my friend back in Vancouver we called it Barbie's workout. Susan Harris looks like a Barbie doll but she's still our favorite instructor. I always feel a real sense of accomplishment whenever I get through it! I feel good. Well, partially good. Still have tummy troubles today, but at least I'm hungry.

Breakfast: Kimchi omelette
Organic jasmine green tea
Lunch: One slice of sprouted grain toast with natural peanut butter and Marmite.
Snack: Cashews
Snack: Marinated artichoke hearts
Dinner: Curried vegetables with sausage
Snack: Yogurt

1 hour 46 minutes total exercise today. 1 hour aerobic weight-training. 46 minutes on treadmill. Aerobic steps: 4,894. Total steps: 6,692.

Dinner - zuchhini, chard and chiken dish i made during weekend

Shaking all over

Down 2 more lbs this morning! Only 1.8 lbs to go to reach my starting point.

Breakfast: Eggs and bacon
Lunch: Salad with fish
Dinner: Grilled veggies and salmon with creamy key lime mustard

Not feeling that well today. It's easy not to over eat when you don't feel like eating at all. :\

1 hour 15 minutes total exercise today. Half hour swimming. 45 minutes Bikram yoga postures (one set each). Steps: 2,701.

I've been trying to reestablish my yoga practice ever since I broke both my arms three years ago. I finally got through a whole session! OMG, I thought I was going to die! Had to keep taking rest breaks, my heart was racing so fast. Whole body is tired. Arms and legs are all shaky. Salabhasana was painful where I broke my arms, but I suspect practice will help with that. Could not do Supta-vajrasana, which wasn't much of a surprise. I could still do Ustrasana. Yay for me! Didn't do it well and couldn't hold it very long, but I could do it. :)

Planning on an early night. So tired and drained.

Wednesday, July 13, 2011

No pain = no pain!

Down 1.5 lbs today. For the first time in months, my achilles tendon didn't hurt when I was walking yesterday. It felt tight and was slightly tender last night after all the walking yesterday, but it didn't hurt. Still feels a bit tight but doesn't hurt even after more walking today. Maybe it's FINALLY healing! I'm going to keep the incline to 0 and not go faster than 3 for awhile to make sure I don't re-injure it.

Breakfast: Two small crusts of sprouted grain bread with natural peanut butter and Marmite
Lunch: Salad with Andouille cajun style sausage
Organic jasmine green tea
Snack: Dill pickle
Dinner: Chicken omelet

2 hours, 16 minutes on the treadmill. Aerobic steps: 15,583. Total steps: 18,052

I'm so proud of myself for resisting the cranberry orange scone that has been sitting on top of the fridge most of the day. Now, it's gone. Thank you, Francis, for finally eating it!

Ladies, please can you respond to this post.

I have a question.. we blog what we eat.. but should we motivate each other, give each other ideas or call each other out when we are not being comitted? How , when, any ideas?

Yogi - Starting over

With Travel, the retreat and July 4th weekend, the last few weeks have not been good to my waistline. I've done well with my workouts but have been eating like I'm going to be hibernating the next few months.. Each meal ended up being a cheat meal. But with a new attitude comes a new resolve. I'm going to continue to workout like i have been but will focus more on my eating habits. I think its 80% of the weight loss. So I'm starting my weeks with Sundays. This week I have been great :)

Sunday - Fiber one bar for breakfast, had a turkey and chicken sandwhich with 100 calorie pack snack for lunch and one diet coke. Also this is the 6th week of my couch to 5k. So i did the 8 min run, 3 min walk, 5 min run and 3 min walk for a total of 45 mins. I also cooked for the whole week - Gazpacho, sweet potatoes with onion, zuchini and chard asian stir fry and spinach and potatoes.

Monday - 2 diet cokes, talapia with spinach and some mashed potatoes, fiber one bar and very little peanut butter and scrapped jam on whole wheat bread for breakfast.
Dinner - 1/2 cup of gazpacho

Tuesday - went spinning.. love that class. intense, leave sweating like crazy every time.. - Breakfast - oatmeal with blueberries, tea, brown rice with the spinach and potatoes i cooked during weekend, fiber one bar, diet coke,
dinner - zuchinni, chard and chicken dish i made during weekend

Wednesday - Ive decided that I will not work out on mondays or wednesdays becuase I dont want to be too sore to miss any of the spin classes.
breakfast - egg with whole wheat bread (2 slices)
snack - 100 calorie pack and diet coke
lunch - brown rice with spinach and potatoe and diet coke
snack - 100 calorie laughing cow ice cream with one stick of 2% cheese
dinner - went to dinner with the hubs.. had talapia.. 1/2 potatoe.. 1 glass of wine

Treadmill day

Why is it I'm always hungrier at night that I am during the day? I'd rather be hungrier at breakfast than after dinner. It's so much harder to be good in the evening.

Down .2 lbs this morning. It's only a small amount, but at least it's in the right direction.

Breakfast: Eggs and back bacon
Snack: Artichoke hearts and dill pickles
Lunch: Clamato juice, 3 sesame rice balls, yogurt
Snack: Grape tomatoes and cottage cheese
Snack: Hearts of palm
Dinner: Garlic feta kale with chicken
Snack: Yogurt

Spent 1 hour 46 minutes total on the treadmill. While I was walking I added some arm exercises with 1 and 5 lb dumbbells. 12,187 aerobic steps. 14,348 total steps. K-pop is so good to keep me moving when I'm not going anywhere! Also helps keep me upbeat when things get frustrating and stressful. Chocolate is still more satisfying, but burning calories is better than consuming them.

Monday, July 11, 2011

New week, new motivation

Set a timer to go off every 30 minutes to remind me to drink more water. Did very well with getting a lot of veggies, today!

Breakfast: Salmon with eggs
Snack: Dill pickle and artichoke hearts
Lunch: Salad with chicken
Snack: Kimchi
Snack: Dry roasted peanuts
Dinner: Pinto beans, ground beef and feta with onions and artichoke hearts
Snack: Organic Greek yoghurt

Two hours total on the bike. 2,638 total steps.

Weekend

Up 2.3 lbs from Friday. Bleh. Didn't drink enough water and didn't get any exercise. I ate reasonably well, but not as well as I could have. My Monday will be much better than my Saturday and Sunday.

Friday, July 8, 2011

Closer to zero...

I'm SO glad it's Friday! It's been a very frustrating work week!

Well, now that all the excess water is gone, I'm not losing several lbs in one day any more. Today I'm down .4 lbs. I'm very happy with that. I have 3.3 lbs that I regained to relose before I start counting it as weight loss again. At least I'm moving in the right direction again!

Breakfast: Eggs & bacon
Snack: The very last Nanaimo bar. (Not making any more!)
Lunch: Salad with chicken and organic greek yoghurt
Snacks: Cashews, cottage cheese, Laughing Cow wedge (I was so hungry this afternoon!)
Dinner: Veggies with feta and ground beef.
Snack: Yoghurt, Dill Pickle Potato Chips, dry roasted peanuts

So, I wasn't very good today. I could have been worse, but I also could have been a lot better.

1 hour total on the bike, and 5,289 steps.

Thursday, July 7, 2011

Getting close to the starting point

Okay, down another 4.4 lbs this morning! Yay! Wish I could always lose weight this fast. I'd reach my goal in no time! I have nearly 4 more lbs to go before I can start counting weight loss again. Got up too late to get in any exercise before work. Didn't sleep much last night—body felt like lead this morning and it was hard getting up.

Breakfast: Eggs with back bacon.
Snack: Grape tomatoes and cottage cheese.
Lunch: Salad with chicken.
Snack: Organic Greek yoghurt.
Dinner: Avocado, artichokes and tomatoes with soba noodles (Don't think I'll have this again. Feel bloated and I'm still hungry.)
Snack: 1/4 cup dry roasted peanuts

Got the battery replaced in my Omron pedometer. The little PwC pedometer is really cute, but it's not as accurate as my Omron. Spent total of 1 hour and 52 minutes on the treadmill. 12,056 aerobic steps; 14,409 total steps.

No sugar tonight...

... or during the day, either. Well, I knew I'd be up all night if I drank all that water! It's good for me, though. Drank lots today, too. Hope I get more sleep tonight. Okay, I'm feeling a little better since the scale says 3.7 lbs lighter than yesterday. Had scrambled eggs with mushrooms, zucchini and onions for breakfast, along with a glass of Clamato juice. (The juice is fine on it's own, but it's even better in a Caesar.) Half hour swimming before work. Lunch was salad with salmon. Frantic rush day today, but just had enough time to squeeze in another half hour in the pool for a late lunch between sending off my PDFs and the presentation meeting at 3:30. Handful of dry-roasted peanuts for morning and afternoon snack. Worked fairly late so also had some cottage cheese and a wedge of Flying Cow garlic cheese. Curried chicken with eggs and veggies for dinner. Pedometer says 6,054 steps. Total of 45 minutes on the treadmill, plus swimming is a total of 1:45 minutes of exercise today.

Tuesday, July 5, 2011

Back on track

Hi, everyone. Well, I got the shock of my life when I stepped on the scale this morning and discovered I'd gained 8 lbs in the past week! Let me tell you, I'm motivated! Started the day with a half hour swim. No more sugar, no more salty snacks, no more drinking!
*Update*. Got in 2 hours total exercise today--1:30 total on the bike and :30 swimming. Breakfast was veggies and lean ground beef with a glass of Clamato juice, lunch was a salad with salmon, and dinner was more veggies and ground beef. Had a handful of dry-roasted peanuts as snacks in the morning and afternoon, and ate the last two Peak Freans cookies I ordered for Canada Day. Now that they're all gone there are no more cookies in the house. Drank a ton of water--I'll probably be up all night, now Feeling really sleepy.

Yogi - The "Why"

This is not the first time I have opened up a blog to try and loose weight. I was healthy before I came to the states, but have gained around 40 lbs in the last 10 years. When we came to the US, we were broke and my mom had no clue on how to live a healthy lifestyle. We normally had ramon noodles and fast food everyday. Over the years, in an attempt to loose weight, I have yo yo dieted, continually loosing and regaining the weight.. it has been a battle.

My mindset today is different. I've read over and over again that the commitment has to be for life and it has to be to be healthy. I guess i thought i believed it but now it all makes sense. The last year has been a worldwind. I have realized the value and need to be healthy. I am doing this because I am overweight and not healthy. I need to be fit so that so that I don't end up with heart issues or diabeties or whatever else comes with being obese.

I am the fattest I have ever been in my whole life. EVER. I am struggling to loose the weight but am determined that if i take it a day at a time, make healthy choices, one meal at a time, the pounds will drop and i will get healthly.

I dont want to yo yo again. this is a life committment. I found that when i go back and forth, i always stay in the struggle zone, because im always at a place, where i work out and eat right for a month, stop , then do the same.. so i always struggle with the hardest part over and over again (the first month).. its never pleasant. I'm determined to go past the month.. this is a life committment!
